About Peacocks

In ancient times, Phoenicians imported peacocks to Egypt to be used as decoration. During Medieval times, peacocks were roasted and re-dressed before serving on the dinner table of nobles and royalty.

The other two species only have a few sets of feathers. Despite their massive tail, peacocks can fly but they cannot swim. According to Feng Shui, a peacock's feathers safeguard a person from disaster.

Once mating is done, peahens will create a nest for their eggs. Peahens choose a peacock based on its size, color and quantity of tail trains. Some studies have shown that peacocks can fake a copulatory call in order to attract more peahens.

Peacocks in the wild can live for up to 20 years. Compared to peacocks, peahens mature earlier and can mate at the age of one. Newly hatched peachicks will stay with their mothers for months, learning how to eat, groom their feathers and communicate with other peafowl.

Their beautiful tail feathers shed after mating season. A peacock's head is crested with feathers creating a crown-like appearance. Their female counterparts are called peahens, and their babies are called peachicks.

It is seriously important for peacock to drink water many times during the day, especially after feeding and before roosting on three branches. Pet foods such as cat or dog food are not recommended as the only diet for peacocks, but should be used in conjunction with fresh or dried fruits, vegetables, and grains. Baby peacocks (called peachicks) will like to follow what their parents do. Their parents will teach them to hunt or forage for food.

But it will be different for domestic peacocks that are used to being fed with poultry feed. But again, what do peacocks eat depend on some factors. When raised in captivity, the domestic peacock are often feed a commercial bird and poultry feed.

Naturally, in their native habitat, peacocks consume an omnivorous diet composed of both animals, insects and vegetation. Peacocks are opportunistic eaters that can eat everything they found. When it comes to the food requirements, the wild and the domesticated peacock probably have some differences.
